Synopsis
In this classic Jerry Lewis comedy, Lewis plays Norman Phiffier, a rather awkward young man who doesn't have much money, but has inspired love in a beautiful young girl named Barbara (St. John). The two fall in love quickly, and Barbara hesitates to tell Norman that she is from a very rich family, not wanting to make him uncomfortable. When Barbara tells her mother (Moorehead) that she intends to marry Norman, her mother instantly conceives a plan to stop the marriage; she offers Norman a job in the family department store and gives him difficult and degrading tasks, hoping to humiliate him in front of Barbara. This setup gives Lewis room to perform some truly amazing physical comedy, as he unwittingly frustrates the mother's attempt to sabotage the couple's marriage plans. One of Lewis's best.

"...[With] clever gags....A loose blueprint to allow Lewis and director Frank Tashlin to indulge in slapstick set pieces..." (USA Today)
